ATU *in person* General Meeting on Tuesday August 26 at 6pm
Please join us at the Altadena Main Library
Join us for ATU’s first in-person general meeting!
Over the last eight months, all of us have been through so much. We’ve met each other at the DRC, in line for meals with World Central Kitchen, and at recovery events - now we’re bringing tenants together at the Altadena Main Library for an evening of solidarity and hope for our collective future. Join us in the Community Room from 6:00-8:00pm!
This meeting is open ONLY to Altadena tenants (current or displaced). We love and appreciate our homeowner and organizational allies, and we’ll have future meetings that will be open to you, just not this one.
Please register to attend and confirm your status as a tenant. As always, landlords, cops, and journalists reporting stories are not welcome at any ATU events.
Obviously many of us are still scattered all over LA, and if an in-person meeting isn’t an option for you right now, please register anyway and tell us that - we’re trying to gauge the best tempo of in-person vs online meetings for coming months.
Here’s the game plan for the evening:
6:00-6:30pm | Arrive & meet fellow tenants: Have a snack, hang out and say hi to your neighbors
6:30-7:30pm | General Meeting
Introductions & Community Agreements
ATU Activity Recap, January - August: What have we been doing, how will membership work, how can you get involved, wtf is even going on with LA County, etc.
Renter’s Rights Briefing: A quick explainer on some of the biggest issues we’re seeing for tenants in Altadena and what you can do about it
Community Problem Solving: We’ll select one tenant issue from an attendee and problem solve together as a group to share knowledge and build all our skills (if you want to volunteer your issue, please check the box that says “I’m okay to share this in the meeting” when you register!)
7:30-8:00pm | Wrap Up & Goodbyes
GENERAL MEETING FAQs
Do I have to be a member to attend this meeting?
That’s not even a thing yet! We’ll be introducing the ATU membership model and providing info on how to join, so please please come!
Will this meeting be livestreamed? Can I join virtually?
No - because we want to make sure that folks have the opportunity to really talk to one another in person and make connections with their neighbors, this isn’t a good fit for livestreaming. But we’ll have future meetings that are available online. Please fill out the registration form and let us know what would be the best option for you.
I'm not an Altadena renter, but I really care about the rights and conditions for tenants in Altadena. Can I come?
Sorry, not this time. This meeting is ONLY open to Altadena tenants, but there will be future opportunities for you to show up in support and solidarity for your neighbors!
Is registration required?
Yes, registration is required. Please register online by clicking the big yellow button above - it’s easy and it takes literally one minute. It will also help us know how many snacks to buy :-)
